Xandros sta per acquisire Linspire

Xandros, società nota al pubblico per aver sviluppato la distribuzione Linux utilizzata dall'Eee PC di Asus, sta per acquisire Linspire, un'altra compagnia dell'universo open source che proponendo l'omonima distribuzione Linux Linspire, in precedenza conosciuta anche con il nome Lindows.

L'annuncio ufficiale dell'acquisizione dovrebbe avvenire in giornata, ma già non mancano le polemiche. In accordo con quanto affermato nel blog di Kevin Carmony, azionista di Linspire, pare infatti che la compagnia abbia portato avanti le trattative con Xandros mantenendo gli azionisti di minoranza, che sono circa un centinaio, all'oscuro ti tutto; l'esito della trattativa sarebbe stato poi reso noto solamente a cose fatte attraverso un memorandum.

Carmony inoltre prosegue accusando Michael Robertson, fondatore di Linspire, di aver condotto la trattativa con Xandros unicamente per soldi e per non dover ammettere pubblicamente di aver portato alla rovina l'azienda sotto la loro guida:

"I predict this was done to: 1) help Robertson drain the company of its cash and resources. When I left Linspire, we had a very profitable year and the company had millions in the bank. I predict Robertson has moved this money to himself, family, and his other companies, leaving Linspire's minority shareholders with nothing. 2) help Robertson save face by issuing a "Linspire Acquired by Xandros!" press release, instead of living with the public humiliation that Linspire failed under his leadership. (Although, being out lasted by Xandros isn't much less embarrassing.) Such a press release will of course be meaningless unless the acquisition was substantial. As a shareholder, I will eventually find out. 3) Give Xandros a press release and perhaps some way for them to spin this to investors to raise money".
